Lhasa

Beyond Lhasa

In mid-September, 2006, I finally arrived in the Tibet I had long dreamt about.  You can just imagine my excitement!   Through the perfunctory eyes of a rushed traveler, what did I see?

Unlike previous travels, when I was mostly on foot, this time I spent most of my time in motor vehicles.  It was only in Lhasa did I allow myself to walk to my heart's delight.   So here you will find my photographs divided into the two groups: "Lhasa" and "Beyond Lhasa".   The map above indicates areas I have traveled.

Is this really Lhasa Basin?  Is this really Yarlung Zangbo River?
My heart jumps!

The taxi took me (yes, the sole traveler) swiftly to the heart of Lhasa.

The train station

It is easy to take pictures from the huge windows of the steady train.

Flanking the railway are obstacles, such as these, which prevent wildlife from coming close to the speeding trains.

You may step out to take a look when the train stops.

The QingZang Railway and the Road of QingZang are near parallel.   From the train, one can catch glimpses of cars or trucks through the grasslands.  Driving through days and nights  - what a lonely feeling.
